Invasive non-native plant and animal species are the second greatest threat to biodiversity worldwide after habitat destruction. They can negatively impact on native species, can transform habitats and threaten whole ecosystems causing serious problems to the environment and the economy.
Species like Japanese Knotweed (JKW) have serious implications for construction and development activities. It is widely accepted that JKW seriously undermines foundations and infrastructure, weakening buildings, roads and other surfaces. The prevention of the spread of the species on to construction sites is now an important factor in many developments.
While Envirocentre has expertise dealing with all non-native plant and animal species they have developed a particular reputation through their work with Japanese Knotweed. EnviroCentre is one of the leading environmental consultancies dealing with the identification and treatment of Japanese Knotweed across Scotland.
